The series came to life in the original 1988 film where serial killer Charles Lee “Chucky” Ray transfers his soul to a child-sized doll after being mortally wounded. He is given to Andy Barclay as a birthday gift and from there he goes on a rampage in his quest to find a way to transfer his soul back into a human body. Though his attempts to become human again have always failed, Chucky has succeeded in surviving all attempts to destroy him.
It's now 2019 and the Child's Play franchise has been rebooted. Buddi is the name of the new high-tech, machine-learning doll gifted to Andy.
